How to Stay Consistent With Your Habits: 7 Practical Strategies

  1. Why do most people struggle with consistency?: You make the habits hard to start, you don’t know how to do the habits, no accountability, doing the wrong habits, low motivation, low self discipline, etc.

Why is consistency important? Well I think there are 2 main things that you need for success in life: 1. Consistency and 2. Daily improvement.

  • So for consistency stay true to your word: Make a goal and stick to it, if you say you will do a habit daily then do it daily, if you say you will do it once a week then do it once a week.

2. Know Exactly how to do each habit: Go through your to-do list and ask yourself ” Do I know exactly how to do this full habit from start to finish?”. You want to ask yourself that for each habit on your to-do list!

Once you know exactly how to do each habit, then you will notice it is a lot easier to stay consistent. Just like back when we were kids: If we didn’t know how to do an assignment we would keep procrastinating and end up not doing the assignment.

Its the same idea with your habits know exactly how to do it, and if you don’t then ask for help or learn videos on YouTube of exactly how to do the habit that you are procrastinating on and don’t know what to do!

3. Track your daily progress: Simple plan is get a folder and some tape and a sharpie and label it: Time tracking papers.

What should I track? You got 2 options: You can either track just the time it takes for each habit like: Habit #4: 10:30 minutes, or track both habit amount done and the time it took so like: Read 10 pages: 10:30.

So do the option that works best for you, track the amount that you did, and/or the amount of time it took you for each habit that you want to be consistent on!

Time tracking rule: You can track just success habits or you can track all habits that take 1 minute or more, its your choice. And it depends on how much and how consistent with your habits you want to be!

4. Write the habit down + Set a timer: This is how you can time track the habits that you want to be consistent on, its simple!

Example: say you want to write 10 Facebook group comments and its habit #9, just write this: 15. #9: 7:20

The 15 is the current habit number you are tracking, the #9 is the habit number in your personal brand list, and the 7:20 is the minutes and seconds it took for that habit. here is more examples of some morning routine habits from my real time tracking list…

  1. Fix bed: 13:32
  2. Bathroom: 15:35
  3. Floss, Brush: 9:54

Rules: 1. At the top of the page write: today month, day, year: Time tracking. 2. At top right corner write: -Time woke up:?, Time slept:? 3. If do 2 habits in 1 time track, then just write habit, habit ( ,).

So that is how you can time track, and time tracking and saving your time tracking papers Is great for building long term habit consistency. Just like a video game you can save your progress!

5. Try not to miss more than one day in a row: Its okay to miss a day if its an emergency or you are sick. But on most normal days you don’t want to miss days. Because think of you playing 8 ball pool: Imagine you play for 100 days then you take 1 month break, what would happen to your skill?

It would probably get worse because you are not consistently practicing your skills, its the same ideas with habits you want to keep showing up everyday for the right habits, and you want to keep improving everyday. Just like with my social media now that I’m posting daily I notice it is way easier to make videos than when I posted a couple times a week or less.

6. Make a minimum habit list for busy days: Not everyday you will have the full day for free time, maybe some days you want to go out to eat with your family, or unexpected interruptions, or you have lot less energy, whatever it is. You need to make a ” mini to-do list”

So for my list some examples are: Read 40 pages vs read 10 pages, 20 minutes YouTube video learning vs 10 minutes YouTube video learning or 20 minutes market research vs 10 minutes market research.

So you would still be doing the daily habits that you need to do, but you would do less of it so that way it takes less time and you get more free time!

So write a mini version of your full to-do list and I would recommend you print it out and laminate it! If you want to stay more consistent on busy days.

7. Do self improvement habits with a friend group: What do you think is better for doing habits 100 days In a row. Solo or with a support group?

Im sure you would pick the support group why? Well doing all of your habits alone is fine and can work, but what happens when you feel very lazy or you don’t feel like doing your habits?

Your support group can help you do your habits, share ideas, and help keep you accountable, and a healthy competition to see who can stay consistent the most days in a row and make the most progress!

So start by doing self improvement habits alone, and then slowly overtime have friends who are also interesting in self improvement, and grow and become super successful together!

That is the 7 ways that you can stay more consistent with your to-do list. What idea do you think will help you the most? Let me know!
